Back to Dust

By David J. Stewart

Isaiah 64:8, “But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.”

We are clay, formed by a loving Creator from the dust of the earth. Think about that... we are made of dirt! Our soul is what makes us alive; and our spirit is what makes us a human being. Ecclesiastes 12:7 says that all spirits return unto God at the moment of death. Ecclesiastes 12:7, “Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.” Every human being will return to the dust as we were before we were born. What a needful Scripture for us to ponder.

So many people, especially young people, live as though they will never die. The Bible warns in Proverb 27:1 not to boast of tomorrow, because we do not know what a day may bring forth. Your life could drastically take a turn for the worse, or you could die by sundown.

Hebrews 10:31, “It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” Few people fear God, which is why the world is so evil. Romans 3:18, “There is no fear of God before their eyes.” Singer SHAKIRA blasphemes God, accusing Him of being evil and malign. God deserves so much better. How is it that most poor people, who have so little, praise and thank God; while filthy rich, famous, and prosperous celebrities in this wicked world attack God, placing Him on trial, and accuse God of being unfair and cruel? Ecclesiastes 12:7 says that we are made of dust and will return to dust when this short like is over, and then our spirit will return into God's hands. How will you spend eternity, smoking or non-smoking? I KNOW, beyond any shadow of a doubt, that I am saved (1st John 5:13). I KNOW because I am saved by Jesus' righteousness (Romans 4:5; 2nd Corinthians 5:21; Romans 10:3-4) and not be any self-righteousness of my own.

It's back to dust the moment you die. The life of this clump of clay is the spirit. The moment that our spirit is gone, it's back to dust. Rigor mortis is just a breath away my friend. Are you ready to meet your Maker? Amos 4:12, “...prepare to meet thy God, O Israel.” We all have to stand account before God (Romans 14:12). Are you ready? All men will give account, whether saved (2nd Corinthians 5:10-11) or unsaved (Revelation 20:11-15). The books will be opened.

It would be much better for young people to visit a cemetery or graveyard frequently to remind them that death is coming; than for them to go to music concerts that fill their heads with fantasies, bigger than life euphoric feelings, and false realities. Reality is death, and it's just around the corner for all of us. James 4:14,  “Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.” The fools singing, “I'm on a highway to Hell,” won't be doing it for much longer, for that is where they will be for ever and ever in torments. Revelation 14:11, “And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.” We're all headed for the dust. I'm ready to meet God, are you? Do you have Jesus? Have you been born-again? If not, what are you waiting for. Just come to God as a SINNER, believing on Jesus the SAVIOR to forgive your sins.

"In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ."
