How to Have Peace Beyond All Understanding

By David J. Stewart | April 2011

“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” —Philippians 4:6

The Bible tells us not to allow ourselves to become over-stressed about matters. Instead, God instructs us to pray (making our requests known) to God the Father in Jesus' name, that we may have rest for our souls.

The peace of God which passeth all understanding comes from TRUSTING GOD. It is when you come to the point where you are burned out in life, drained and tired, and your burdens are overbearing, and your tears seem totally useless, and your situation seems hopeless; it's at that time in your life when you are ready to fall apart, lose-it, kill yourself, and give -up that you simply LET GO AND LET GOD!!!

Every believer at some point becomes overwhelmed with life, people, bills, circumstances, health, problems, et cetera—it's at this make-it-or-break-it-point that you will either draw closer to God for dear life's sake (James 4:8-9), or you will become more apostate and lower your standards, compromising with the sinful world to fit in and befriend God's enemies (James 4:4). You are either on God's side or the sinful world's side (Joshua 24:15). There is NO middle ground.

The peace that passeth all understanding is called the PEACE OF GOD!!! It is God's peace that gives us rest for our souls. 1st Corinthians 1:30 teaches concerning our precious Lord Jesus Christ... Ephesians 2:14, “For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us.” JESUS IS OUR PEACE. If you want an escape from this insane and crazy world, then hide your life with Christ in God the Father by obeying the Word of God. If people look at you and see Jesus Christ, then you are hiding with Christ in God (Colossians 3:3). John 7:7 says that Jesus testified against the world, that it's deeds thereof were evil. Jesus was a preacher of righteousness, and took an uncompromising stand against sin, just as did Evangelist's Billy Sunday And John R. Rice.

If you are at your wit's end, turn to the Lord in your soul and bath your life in prayer. Bath your problems in prayer. Bath your troubles and heartaches in prayer. And then forget about them, knowing that God has asked you to cast your burdens upon Him (1st Peter 5:7). This is exactly what God has commanded all believers to do. The Christian believer who worries, frets, sulks in bitterness, and hangs onto angry emotions instead of laying it all at the Lord's feet at His throne of grace and mercy in Heaven (Hebrews 4:15-16), is not obeying God. God wrote Hebrews 4:15-16 for a reason, that is, to encourage, teach, and instruct every Christian believer to come boldly unto God's throne of grace to obtain mercy so God will HELP us in time of need. Certainly...

I need Thee, O I need Thee,
Ev'ry hour I need Thee!
O bless me now, my Savior, I come to Thee!
I need Thee ev'ry hour, Most Holy One;
O make me Thine indeed, Thou blessed Son!

There is a peace within understanding when a person knows why something is occurring in their life. But then there are those oft times when we simply do not know why something is happening, why we are being allowed to suffer and hurt, feeling forsaken by God and unloved by everyone in this world. It is during these worrisome times of doubt and fear that we must SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES as Jesus Commanded in John 5:39 and claim the exceedingly great PROMISES of God. The Bible contains literally several THOUSAND PROMISES from God, Who cannot lie (Titus 1:2). The power of God rests in the PROMISES of God. 2nd Peter 1:4, “Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and PRECIOUS PROMISES: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”

God is still on His throne my friend...

Everything's alright in my Father's house,
in my Father's house,
in my Father's house,
Everything's alright in my Father's house,
Where there's joy, joy, joy

Take your burdens to the Lord and leave them there. If someone's hurt you, God will hold them accountable. Matthew 12:36 says that God will judge men even for the words they speak. We are under constant surveillance by God in Heaven, so much in fact that He even keeps track of the number of hairs on our head (Luke 12:7). That should cause us to relax and rest assure that God will deal with everything in His times. Romans 3:18 says that the world has no fear of God before their eyes. 1st John 5:19 tells us that the whole world lieth in wickedness. Nothing will ever change this. John Lennon's hit song, IMAGINE, sounds great theoretically; but it totally ignores the reality of man's sin nature. As if a bunch of hippie punks could make the world a better place by fornicating, having abortions, and becoming lesbian under the name of Women's Liberation. How insane!

John Lennon's dream would not have worked. When Noah, his wife, and their 3 sons and daughters-in-law left the ark, there were no borders, no religions, no war, no stock markets, no money, no corporate ladders to clime. It was 8 people and an empty planet. Now look at the fine mess we've gotten ourselves into as the human race? Sin has always been the culprit. Close your modern nutcase psychology books and instead open the Bible that addresses the issue of sin. Jesus came into the world to SAVE SINNERS! That's the main message I preach in my ministry. It's called the Gospel i.e., the good news of Christ crucified, buried, and risen (1st Corinthians 15:1-4).
