The False Gospel Of “The Moment After”

By David J. Stewart | May 2012 | Updated December 2016

“God, I know you're real. Please forgive me. Come into my life Jesus. Oh God, lead me.” —Adam (David White)

In the very successful 1999 religious movie, “THE MOMENT AFTER” produced by David A. R. White (in which David White himself plays the role of FBI agent Adam Riley), there is a false plan of salvation—that is, a false Gospel.

At the end of the film Jacob Krause (Brad Heller) allows himself to be caught by the FBI. Adam Riley asks Jacob Krause why he allowed himself to be caught. Adam is startled when Jacob says that God told him to get caught in order to witness the truth to Adam. Jacob shares his idea of faith with Adam and puts him on-the-spot to make a decision to reject or accept the message. So Adam decides to have what Jacob has, saying “I accept.” Adam asks, “What do I do?” Here is Jacob's reply (i.e., his errantly plan of salvation)...

“All you have to do is ask. If we humbly confess our sins, and ask Jesus Christ to be our Savior and Lord of our life, we will spend an eternity in His kingdom.” —Jacob Krause (Brad Heller)

Notice that there is NO MENTION of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. 1st Corinthians 15:1-4 defines the Biblical Gospel as: the DEATH of Jesus on the cross, His BURIAL, and the Lord's bodily RESURRECTION three days later. This is the message of THE CROSS! There can be no salvation without the cross upon which Christ died. Every sinner must go through Calvary to be saved. Jacob's plan of salvation completely leaves out the cross of Christ.

It is a false Gospel to require someone to ask Jesus to be the “Lord” of their life. The reason why many religious people add this to God's plan of salvation, is in a human attempt to force people to live a holy life. They don't understand the new birth, or how the Christian life works. Biblically, you simply acknowledge that you are a guilty sinner in God's sight, and you receive Christ's sacrifice on the cross as payment for your sins, believing that He died, was buried and bodily raised up three days later. This is the Good News, aka, “the Gospel.” Forgiveness of sins and eternal life are a free gift (Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9). Once saved, it is the indwelling Holy Spirit that produces a changed life, or the “fruit” of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23).

The heretical Lordship Salvation crowd (i.e., David A.R. White, John MacArthur, Ray Comfort, Billy Graham, Rick Warren, Paul Washer and many others), errantly add manmade repentance to the Gospel. Instead of simply BELIEVING the Gospel as the Bible teaches, they embellish the Gospel, also requiring that a person make Jesus their Lord (Master), and surrender their life to follow Christ in obedience. In their wrong thinking, they believe this is necessary for salvation. They have a hard time accepting the idea that someone can merely BELIEVE on the Lord Jesus Christ to be saved, without also committing to follow Christ as their Lord, lest there be no lasting changes in that person's life. This is heresy! God changes a man, and not the man himself.

In Christianity, you believe the Gospel, and then God changes you from within as His child (Galatians 2:20). In Lordship Salvation, you are required to commit to manmade changes (surrendering to Christ's Lordship) as a prerequisite to believing the Gospel. There is a world of difference. The latter doesn't produce the new birth. Let the Scriptures speak for themselves... John 6:28-29, “Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.” There is no mention of making Jesus “Lord.”

Now here is what Adam Riley prays to God in response to the witness of Jacob Krause...

“God, I know you're real. Please forgive me. Come into my life Jesus. Oh God, lead me.” —Adam Riley (David A. R. White)

May I say, that is a false gospel. You'll never get to Heaven by knowing that God is real, nor by asking Jesus into your life, nor by asking God to lead you. There can be no salvation without the cross upon which Christ died. There must be the burial (officiating Jesus' death). Some mockers and skeptics claim that Jesus wasn't really dead, and His resurrection was staged. That is blatantly false. The Gospel also includes the miraculous bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ, literally, from the dead. After His resurrection, Jesus was seen by over 500 brethren, all at one time, according to 1st Corinthians 15:6.

You'd be surprised how many preachers today don't believe that Christ literally arose from the dead, nor do they believe in a literal Heaven having a street (singular - Revelation 22:2) of gold, nor do they believe in a literal Hell that burns with fire.

Jeffrey Hadden 1998 poll:

A survey of mostly mainline Protestant clergy by a prominent American sociologist showed that many doubt Jesus' physical resurrection. Percentage of doubters were found to be:

bullet American Lutherans: 13%
bullet Presbyterians: 30%
bullet American Baptist: 33%
bullet Episcopalians: 35%
bullet Methodists: 51%

The Devil has crept into our churches today through Hollywood and non-Hollywood movies alike, which present a homogenized, non-offensive, watered-down, ecumenical, vague gospel, that says “receive Jesus into your heart,” or “Make a commitment to Christ,” or “Invite Christ into your life.” Others are led to “Pray the Jesus prayer.” My friend, none of these constitute the Biblical Gospel.

The Gospel is the “Good News” of Christ Who died upon the cross for our sins, was buried, and then resurrected the third day for our justification. If we receive Christ's sacrifice upon the cross as full-payment for our sins, then we are saved eternally. Salvation is instant, immediate, irreversible, irrevocable, non-returnable and permanent. Amen! If saved, always saved. Salvation is a supernatural miracle of God in response to one's faith in the crucified, buried and risen Savior. 1st Thessalonians 4:14, “For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. Our faith plus the Gospel equals eternal life.” I love that simple Scripture. I don't see anything in there about surrendering to Christ as “Lord” of your life to be saved. That's because the Bible doesn't require it.

I noticed on the ReligiousTolerance.Org website that they make the following heretical statement...

*Barna Research defines a “Born-again Christian” as an individual who has “made a personal commitment to Jesus Christ that is still important in their life today and who then indicated they believe that when they die they will go to Heaven because they had confessed their sins and had accepted Jesus Christ as their savior.

My friend they have a very WRONG definition of what it means to be “born-again.” Being born-again Biblically means having He (Jesus Christ), Who is the beginning (Revelation 1:8), born in you. We are born anew by the Holy Spirit of God (the Spirit of Christ, Romans 8:9) the very instant that we personally receive Jesus, believing upon Him as the Christ, the only begotten Son of God (John 1:12-14; John 20:31). Salvation is receiving, not giving. It is the gift of God (Ephesians 2:8-9). Salvation is not doing your best, it is having Christ's best put to your account through receiving Him by faith. God will not save anyone who is trying to be saved, He will only save those who are trusting to be saved.

You can make all the commitments to Christ that you want and still go straight to hellfire when you die. The religious group in Matthew 7:21-23 has done many wonderful works in Jesus' name, they had cast out devils, they had preached in Jesus' name; but the Lord said, “Depart from me ye that work iniquity, for I never knew you.” Will Christ know you when you enter into eternity? Or will you be cast into the fires of Hell forever?

Matthew 7:21 tells us why those religious people were rejected by the Lord. The Holy Bible says that they went around saying,
“Lord, Lord,” but they had not done the will of the Father. You can only get to Heaven by doing the will of the Father. That's what Matthew 7:21 teaches and warns. So what is the will of the Father? I'm glad you asked. The best way to interpret the Bible is with the Bible. We find the will of God the Father in John 6:40...

John 6:40, “And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.”

There you have it. The will of the Father is to believe on Jesus Christ as taught in the Scriptures. The Scriptures testify of Jesus Christ. John 5:39, “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.” Salvation is very simple my friend. Most ministers make salvation hard, if not impossible. Christ died, that's history; Christ died and rose for me, that's salvation! John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

At the close of the film, THE MOMENT AFTER, (A WES LLEWELLYN FILM), the blockbuster hit song “People Get Ready, Jesus Is Coming Soon” by Crystal Lewis is played. Crystal Lewis is another Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) apostate. Lewis' video, TRUST ME, exposes her as being evil to the core. The video features Lewis sitting on a bed, luring the viewer, while singing the supposedly Christian lyrics. I dare you to prove me wrong... CCM singers never share the Gospel with anyone.

The Moment After film presents a wishy-washy, non-offensive, false gospel, that any hellbound Roman Catholic wouldn't be offended by. When you present the Biblical Gospel correctly, it OFFENDS most people, because it EXCLUDES all forms of self-righteousness (this excludes sacraments, good works, water baptism, Sabbath keeping, the Eucharist, church membership, making a commitment, amending one's ways, forsaking the world, turning over a new leaf, giving your life to God, and anything else that corrupts the grace of God in salvation).

Christ alone bore our heavy burden of sin on Calvary's tree. Anyone who tries to place part of that burden upon the sinner's shoulder by requiring a changed life, or mandating some effort on the part of the sinner to improve one's behavior, is a false prophet. Jesus paid it all! Our part in salvation is simply to BELIEVE upon the Lord Jesus Christ. Whatever else that needs to be changed in our life is God's department and has absolutely nothing to do with the free GIFT of eternal life. A gift means a gift, free and clear (Romans 5:15; 6:23), no strings attached, just waiting to be received by faith.

I witnessed to an influential Seventh-day Adventist man today. He asked for my opinion of Seventh-day Adventism and I told him the unpleasant truth. I told him frankly that I did not believe SDA's are Christians, because they wrongly define faith as including water baptism, Sabbath keeping, tithing, good works, et cetera. The man replied that to be saved, there must be a change of heart. Although that sounds really nice, it is totally unbiblical. I triple-dog dare you to show me even one Bible verse that says you must have “a changed heart” to be saved. The only thing that the Bible says a person must do to be saved is repent (Mark 1:15), meaning a simple “change of mind,” which compels a person to believe the Gospel. Without repentance, no man would ever come to Jesus Christ (John 3:20). Repentance is the realization that we have sinned against a holy God. Repentance is the admission that we are as guilty of being a sinner, as God declares us to be in His Holy Word (Romans 3:19). We are all woeful sinners in God's eyes.

Having said all that, I love the entire End Times series by David A. R. White, Kevin Downes and Brad Heller. Some of the other films include: The Moment After II (the awakening), Six: The Mark Unleashed, and End Of The Harvest). There are some others too, all available from Amazon.com. I love the acting and talent that God has given these people. Wow! I loved everything about their films accept the Lordship Salvation junk. There is only ONE plan of salvation, not two. Either a person must change their behavior to be saved, or they do not. It cannot be both. Truthfully, many religious leaders today are confusing Salvation with Discipleship.

BEWARE: There is a hardcore pornographic film being sold by Amazon and other sellers titled, “THE RAPTURE” starring Mimi Rogers. It is evil to the core, false advertising, and totally misleading. This film has absolutely nothing to do with David A. R. White, but I wanted to make mention of it here since I'm mentioning other End Times films.

I love everybody in the Lord and did not write this article to be unkind to anyone; but rather, to contend for the Christian faith (Jude 1:3). Satan's greatest weapon is to con people into living the Christian life without ever being born-again. Our churches today are filled with false converts, who go through all the religious motions, but have never believed upon the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. Instead, they have been provided a comfortable substitute by the Devil, to give them a false hope. This is why Matthew 7:13-14 warn that most people fail to ever find the narrow gate and the straight way which lead unto life. Have you believed a lie?

Matthew 7:23, “And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.”

"In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God,
and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ."

—2nd Thessalonians 1:8
