The Collapse Of Character In America
By David J. Stewart | September 2012
I remember growing up back in the 1970's. It was the last of the character years of America. It was still a beautiful time in our nation. There were no credit cards in the 1970's. There was no internet, no cellphones, no TSA sticking their hands down your pants at the airports, no same-sex marriage, no laws forbidding sitting in a playground without a child, no CD's or DVD's, no hip-hop or rap music, et cetera. America still had some character left.
I looked at some pictures of people from the early 1900's and every women had a long dress on. Not even one women wore pants in public in 1900. It's unbelievable how far our nation has descended into wickedness in just one century.
The photo to the left is from March of 2005. The little boy who arrested for courageously attempting to bring a cup of water to Terri Schiavo in Florida after a judge ordered her feeding tubes removed to allow her to die. For two agonizing weeks of torture, Terri's body slowly dehydrated and starved to death at the request of her husband. The judge who passed the court order to remove Terri's feeding tubes never even visited her to meet the person he was about to mercilessly torture to death with the stroke of a pen. That is so cruel.
God bless that little handcuffed boy for caring enough to cross a police line to brink a cup of water to Terri. It divided a nation, but neither governor Jeb Bush of Florida, nor his brother President George W. Bush tried to step in. According to Terri's attorney, David Gibbs III, the case went to the U.S. Supreme Court and received the fasted ruling in U.S. history (within 48 hours). KILL HER!!! And so they did.
The following excellent words are from Evangelist Samuel C. Gipp...
The Collapse of Character
Our moral values, our character, are outgrowths of our upbringing. In the early days of this country our government showed the proper respect for the Bible and its positive effect on mankind. Our people went to churches where even the doctrinally unsound still taught a level of moral living and hard work. Although sin and corruption will be found in any society, ours rejected it and it was relegated to dark alleys and closets. Even “bad men” would refrain from using foul language in the presence of a lady and anyone who didn’t work was looked down on. (In other words, America wasn’t “Hell on Wheels.”)
Then we sent our children to college. Not a bad thing of itself. There they learned how to do things better and explored all aspects of numerous subjects. But slowly our college faculties changed; virtuous, moral professors were slowly edged out and replaced with men and women with no morals and of low character. Colleges and universities that had been turning out teachers whose goals were to educate their students began to turn out social activists instead whose goals were to change our society into one never intended by the Founding
Fathers. Schools that once produced astute businessmen now turn out truck loads of unscrupulous marketers. Over the years these substandard individuals have succeeded in lowering the morals and eradicating the character of three generations, who now care about no one but themselves. They are loyal to no one and nothing, only themselves.
Here are some examples of the individuals of character that we had and how they have changed:
1. Businessmen vs. Marketers - The first thought of a businessman is to the satisfaction of the customer. He wants to give his customer a good product at a fair price. His word is his guarantee. If a customer is unhappy he will do whatever is necessary to fix the problem, not just to get return business butbecause he feels his customer should get a good product. His motto is: “The customer is always right.”
A marketer on the other hand only cares about getting people to buy his product so he can make money. He puts his money and efforts in advertising and convincing his customers to buy more of his products. His business goal is finding a way to give his customer less while charging more. (How many times have you made a purchase and said, “They’re giving me less product for more money.”?) It was a marketer that came up with the idea of fifteen types of Coke and eight different “Crest” toothpastes.
Here’s a real life example. A businessman makes a razor so a man can shave. He makes a blade that will stay sharp as long as possible so his customer will get a good shave for as long as possible. He evenputs a lubricating strip on it. The marketer is unhappy that they aren’t selling a larger volume of razor blades. He then takes the same razor and uses cheaper steal so the blade goes dull sooner to promote sales.
But, customers still use the razors longer than he wishes. So the marketer puts out TV ads telling hiscustomers, whom he thinks are dumber than a rock, that when the strip turns white it’s time to buy a new blade. He thinks his customers are too stupid to know when they aren’t getting a good shave so he has totrain them. If you complain about his product or service he will whine that you are “unreasonable” if you don’t accept his lame excuse. His motto is: “The customer just needs to understand...”
2. Statesman vs. Politician - In the political world this degradation is found in the differences
between what we used to call a “Statesman” and today’s cheap, self-serving politicians. The difference in
these two has best been expressed by the statement, “A Statesman is concerned about the next generation while a politician is concerned with the next election.” or “A Statesman bases his decisions on how they will
benefit the country, a politician bases his decisions on how they will benefit himself.”
3. Teacher vs. Social Activist - The goal of teachers used to be equipping their students for life with the best education they could give them. The goal of a social activist is to promote a socialist agenda no matter how unsuccessful it has proven to be throughout history. The result of this change is that we are now one of the most illiterate countries in the world but our children graduate believing in the myths of: Global
Warming, peace at any cost and the errant notion that homosexuality is normal behavior...yet they don’t know mathematics, history or the proper use of the English language! God curse social activists! Our country was founded by Statesmen who cared more about the future generations than they did their own safety, let alone political futures. Politicians, on the other hand, have only two goals, get in office and stay in office. That’swhy there’s no difference between today’s field of Democrats and Republicans. Both think of nothingbut their own interests ahead of the interests of their country. That’s how we got into this mess and that’s why people see no difference between the two parties. Their political philosophies might be different but theirpolitical goals are identical.
Unfortunately, the destructive influence of the world’s education system is even more widespread than that.Since most all of us were brought up in the public school system we have all been submerged in thisphilosophy of selfishness. Just because we know this philosophy is wrong doesn’t mean we’re immune to its effect. Just because we may be saved doesn’t mean we can’t be selfish. Just because we believe the Bible is the Word of God doesn’t mean we have ceased to have the same flesh as the lost world. What made the United States great was that it was populated by an unselfish people.
To be unselfish is not natural. Therefore, to be become unselfish we need something supernatural. Only theBible issupernatural. It was the hard Bible preaching of the early preachers in the Colonies that raised a generation of unselfish citizens. God blessed the allegiance that this country had to Him and His Book because the citizens of this country were different from any others in the world. (That’s why no Muslim country will ever be a free country.) Contrary to the lie you constantly hear from the News Mafia and public education, the goal of the Colonists was not “free enterprise.” (They didn’t come here to start Pizza Hut!) The goal of the
Colonists was to exalt the Creator and live to His glory. Colonial preachers emphasized this precept and it altered the goals of every citizen and created the most benevolent country the world has ever seen. This resulted in a people that were kind, moral and virtuous who served and worshipped God while helping the less fortunate around them. A people who were not focused on themselves! The young people of our youngest generations, through no fault of their own, have been misledby those they have trusted, their teachers, entertainers and politicians. They have been told they are all “little champions” who “deserve” the “best
(They, like you and I are all sinners who deserve Hell!) They make no decisions that they are not the center of. They think they deserve love, wealth and happiness and could care less if no one else in the world enjoys these blessings. Their every decision is based on the philosophy of, “What’s in it for me?” No businessmen, no teachers, no Statesmen will ever come from thisgeneration. Just self-loving, self-serving greedy individuals like you will find in any other heathen country.
Thomas Jefferson said, “The Bible makes the best people in the world.” Early Americans had biblical values instilled in them and were “the best people in the world.” Forty years of public school with no prayer, no Bible and no biblical principles has created several generations of individuals who add nothing to society but suck everything they can out of it. Basically...we’re goners without the Lord. America is beyond voting our way out of our troubles.

America has brought God's judgment by our long-term rebellion. God has been so patient. To the same degree that we have continued in sin, to that same degree God has slowly removed His hand of blessing from our nation. The Lord has been just, fair and incredibly patient with our nation. Sodom had no preachers, no Bibles and no churches. We have it all and then some in the United States. We have truth crying from the rooftops and in the streets, but no one cares or listens anymore. Preachers are hated and mocked, degraded and attacked for the slightest sin or mistake (while Godless sinners who brag of gross immorality with thousands of women are praised and catapulted even higher in fame). The Devil's crowd is given all the room in the world to make mistakes, but a faithful Christian is under constant scrutiny and attack.
Our nation is collapsing because of our sins... abortion, homosexuality, Rock music, immodesty, nudity, cursing in God's name, casino gambling, cheating each other in business, greed, lying, divorce, covetousness... and on and on. As America gets worse, so does the people. I've never seen such rude, hateful, cutthroat people in all my life as I do today. Greedy lawyers only thrive because of the greedy people who hire them. Police are abusive because society is becoming abusive. Politicians are corrupt because society is corrupt. The problem is our rotten culture as a whole (and it's all a deliberate Communist subversion that's been going on since 1963 when the Bible was removed from our schools). Still, ultimately, the American people have no one to blame but themselves for going along with the evil.
Ultimately, the decision to receive or reject the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ is an INDIVIDUAL decision. The decision to do right or wrong is an INDIVIDUAL choice (although a group of people may all choose to do wrong). We are born one by one as INDIVIDUALS into this world, and we will die alone. Whether we go to Heaven or Hell is solely our decision to make. My friend, where do you stand with God this moment? Have you been born-again by the Spirit of God, by faith in Christ Jesus? America is going to hell because hardly anyone is saved today.
Nearly all of Americans are caught up into false religion of the Devil (Catholics, Mormons, Lutherans, Church of Christ, Jehovah's Witnesses, Seventh-day Adventists, et cetera). These religions ALL pervert the Gospel and lead to damnation. God won't bless a nation of idolaters who worship manmade traditions and false doctrines fabricated by evil men. You need the inspired Words of God in the King James Bible! The New International Version (NIV) of the Bible was translated by HOMOSEXUALS. It is tragically the most popular version in America today. No wonder God's curse is upon our nation!!! Most people couldn't care less. All they want to do is wine and dine, but judgment day is coming for everyone.
It is a sin to eat, drink and be merry if God is not first place in your life and you aren't serving Him faithfully. The restaurants are ful, but the churches are empty. The buildings that are full are not churches, they are religious social clubs, rock concerts and psychology meetings. People refuse to hear a hell, fire and damnation preacher!!! But that's a church! A church is a called out assembly of born-again believers; not a gathering of socialites seeking a nice place to hear uplifting messages each Sunday. Sin is no longer preached against. The precious hymns of the faith have been replaced with entertainment and screeching guitars and bombastic drums. The alter has been replaced with a soundstage.
Church preaching revivals have been replaced with music concerts. God never intended for any professed Christian(s) to go around the country singing people into Heaven. It's doesn't work that way. God chose the foolishness of preaching THE GOSPEL to save them which believe (1st Corinthians 1:21). The Gospel is FOOLISHNESS to unsaved people (with money), which is why NOT ONE mainstream Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) singer posts the Gospel on their website. NOT ONE!!! What hypocrites!!!
America is going to hell while countless phony CCM singers, deadbeat ecumenical ministers, and religious apostates of our generation are making oodles of money. It's a shame. Our nation has gone over a moral waterfall. Character is a thing of the past. People don't tough it out in their marriages anymore. The popular trend is to quit, move on, start a new life (while your spouse is supposed to figure out how to start a new life without you because you abandoned them). It is evil, selfish and rotten. Divorce is a sin, perhaps one of the greatest (because it perpetuates for a lifetime). God pity the person who divorces their spouse against their will and moves on. God will punish the wicked who do that. Divorce is sinful enough as is, but when you abandon someone (and I don't care what sin they may have committed) you might as well shoot them in the head. God hates divorce (Jeremiah 3:20).
I can hear the Lord crying out to our nation... America, America, why hast thou forsaken me?
“Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him.” —Job 13:15
