The Joy of Living for Others in Jesus Christ

By David J. Stewart | September 2017 | Updated October 2017

Philippines 2:3-5, “Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.”

I came out of K-mart the other day and a saw a man with the hood up on his old pickup truck. He asked me if I had any jumper cables. I didn't and told him so. I was ready to leave, but then thought to myself, “What if that were me stranded?” So I got out of my vehicle and said to the man, “You know, I'll bet K-mart sells jumper cables. I'll be right back!” I went and spent $30 of my own money and bought some 12' jumper cables to help the man. While I was gone to get the cables, he wrote the following precious note and placed it on the door of my car, which I cherish...

Helping that needy man made my day. There's no joy like living for others. I was wearing my black hat that says “Jesus” on the back and “John 3:16” on the front (I always wear the cap backwards, so it says “Jesus” on the front). I told the man I helped him because I am a Christian. He thanked me again. I'm not boasting. I don't share most of the kind things that I do for others. But I want to help my web visitors learn how to really live in life. You don't search for happiness in life, it comes along when we least expect it on the road to duty. Happiness is like a taxi ride. While we're going from point A to point B, happiness gets in the side door when we least expect it, and brightens our day. The word “happiness” comes from what “happens” to us. We can't control that.

As Dr. Jack Hyles rightly says, life's complexities cause unhappiness. But joy and peace belong to every Christian believer, who KNOWS 100% that their name is written in Heaven in the Lamb's Book of Life. I do know that! Luke 10:20, “Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.” Do you know why Jesus said that? It is because your name being written in Heaven never changes. Revelation 21:27, “And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life.” I love that! Nothing sinful is allowed into Heaven, and we're ALL sinful. Notice who will be permitted into Heaven... THEY WHICH ARE WRITTEN IN THE LAMB'S BOOK OF LIFE!!!

And by the way, this is further proof of the eternal security of the believer. How could any believer truly rejoice, if their name could be erased from the Book of Life? How could we rejoice over something that is not guaranteed. I feel sorry for any religious person who thinks that salvation can be forfeited, given back and lost. Seventh-day Adventists think that eternal life is a gift that can be returned to God. What a lie of the Devil. They believe that by lack of faith and unholy living, one's salvation can be forfeited. I tell you Biblically, if you are saved, you can NEVER be unsaved again. Just as the physical (earthly) birth is irreversible, so also is the spiritual (second) birth irreversible!!! No believer can ever have true peace and joy, who doesn't fully have the assurance of salvation. The reason why most people worry about their salvation is because they are focusing on the wrong things. Instead of focusing on the grace of God that brings salvation, through the precious blood of Jesus, they are instead focusing on whether or not they did everything right. My friend, Jesus made everything right for us!

So the next time you feel unhappy, go do something nice for someone. Buy someone a book, a hat, an ice cream cone, or whatever. Witness the Gospel to someone. Encourage someone who is sad or lonely. Call an old friend to tell them you were thinking about them today. Let someone know you have been praying for them (if you hopefully have been). A dear Christian lady recently asked me at church if I was moving. I replied, “No, why do you ask?” She said, “I see you giving a bunch of things away to other people.” Amen, I love it. Matthew 5:16, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” My friend, your talk talks and your walk talks, but your walk talks louder than your talk talks!!! I want to give my life away for Jesus to others. I love giving, because at the end of life, it's what we give away that we really get to keep in eternity. Jesus said the man who saves his life will lose it, but the man who gives away his life saves it. Think about that!

Although an unsaved Roman Catholic priest himself, Thomas Aquinas rightly understood that our merciful Creator is the ultimate source of all good...

“...man’s happiness does not consist of wealth, honor, fame, glory, power, the goods of the body, or pleasure. In fact, man’s happiness cannot consist in any created good at all, since the ultimate object of man’s will, the universal good, cannot be found in any creature but rather only in God, who is the source of all good.” ―St. Thomas Aquinas

The greatest things in life aren't things! My own experience in life is that while I'm doing things to make other people happy, there's always a group of mean people who are hurting me elsewhere. So while the devil hurts me through Pharisaical, Bob Jones University alumni, yuppie-type, corrupt Alexandrian Bible version promoting, shallow believers, who set me at nought and sent me up-creek without a paddle to drown, who are playing church, I'm helping the common man, the sinners and broken-hearted like me. I get lots of e-mails from hurting people, like me, who tell me that they feel like the worst sinner on the planet. They ask me to pray for them, because they don't think God will listen to them, because they are too sinful. They ask me if God will still save them. Many can relate to the sorrow in my soul, which is conveyed through my writings. I always encourage them in the Lord and share Pastor Jack Hyles' uplifting sermons for the weary, downcast and fallen, which have been as a lighthouse beacon over the years in my own life.

One of my favorite MP3 sermons is called, If Thou Should Mark Iniquities, Who Could Stand? All God has to work with are sinners, like me. Everyone is a big sinner!!! No one is qualified to serve God!!! I am a sinner helping sinners. I'm glad that I am shunned away and rejected by the snobby Bob Jones crowd. I can relate to the unwanted man on the street. I can relate to the despised fallen man. I can relate to the scapegoat led outside the camp. I can relate to the dear Savior, who was a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. I'm glad that I don't fit in with the arrogant, ungrateful, self-righteous and judgmental Bob Jones camp...

“If there's anybody in the Bible that God had disdain for, it was those that had disdain for other sinners!” —an awesome quote from the MP3 sermon by Dr. Jack Hyles titled, “If Thou Should Mark Iniquities, Who Could Stand?

If I can't be happy, then bless God, at least I can go make somebody else happy, and that makes me happy. I like to find sea shells left behind at high tide, and give them to others. It let's people know that I thought about them. I sometimes pick up garbage on the floor at the shopping mall, and toss it into the garbage pail where it belongs. While at the doctor's office last week, I saw a young lady and her little brother. The little boy spilt his drink all over the floor. Without saying a word, I went to the men's room and grabbed a handful of papertowels and wiped up the spill. She thanked me. I like to be helpful. That's God in me.

If there's one message that people need to hear, besides the plan of salvation, it is to GET OUT OF THE SELF LIFE!!! Churchgoers are far too selfish these days. That's why Bob Jones University doesn't care about the purity of God's Word. They are only concerned about staying in business. We are at war over the inspiration of the Bible, but hardly anyone cares. I CARE!!!

NOTE: I don't believe in double inspiration. That is, I don't believe that God gave the King James Bible translators any new revelations. Since the KJB translators were working with inspired texts, the finished product was also inspired! Our beloved King James Bible is 100% inspired and preserved!!!!!!! When someone says that only the “originals” were inspired, but then God preserved those words, tell them to SHUT UP!!! They are talking nonsense!!! There are NO ORIGINALS available today!!! Beware of Evangelist Sam Gipp, and Chick Tracts, who deny the inspiration of the King James Bible. How can God's Holy Word not be inspired??? If the Bible is not inspired, then the Holy Spirit doesn't speak through those words (John 6:63)!!! How can God's Word be quick (alive) and powerful (Hebrews 4:12) if they are not inspired. If they are not inspired words, then they are imperfect, tainted by mortal men, and unreliable. The average pastor, evangelist and Bible college professor today are indifferent toward the eternal Word of God. IT'S A BIG DEAL TO ME, BECAUSE IT'S A BIG DEAL TO GOD (PSALMS 138:2). The backbone of the Bible corrupting movement is the core idea that only the “originals” were inspired, so at best we merely have umpteen imperfect versions today.

Redeemed sinners make the best Christians. Some of the best soul-winners were former gangsters, drag-addicts, prostitutes, whoremongers, thieves, liars and drunkards. Jesus said to whom much is forgiven, the same loveth much. We don't have enough love in our churches today, because we've got a bunch of religious snobs who've never hit rock bottom in life. If you ever grasp just how dirty of sinner you really are, your life will be totally transformed! If you ever see yourself as the filthy sinner that you are in God's sight, you'll start loving everyone, and not just your little clique of ministry friends.

We should all be more like Jesus, Who continually looked for ways to help others. Philippines 2:3-5, “Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.”

The Sinner's Friend (MP3, Dr. Jack Hyles; While we intensely hate sin, we ought to love sinners!!!)

“God will still use you, I don't care what you've done!”
—an encouraging quote from the MP3 sermon by Dr. Jack Hyles titled, “If Thou Should Mark Iniquities, Who Could Stand?

Why There's A Hell (MP3 sermon by Pastor Danny Castle)

“In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God,
and that obey not THE GOSPEL of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
